In North Carolina, student drivers and those seeking to restore a suspended license are required to carry non-owner car insurance. These policies aren’t available everywhere, but Hawks Insurance partners with top insurance carriers in order to help as many of our friends and neighbors as possible. If you need to get back behind the wheel or have a student who will soon be learning to drive, contact us for insurance assistance.
You might need a non-owner auto policy if
North Carolina law mandates that all student drivers carry their own liability insurance. The state also requires drivers to carry their own insurance, so if you are not the owner of a vehicle or listed as a primary driver of someone else’s vehicle, you need a non-owner policy in order to drive legally.
Coverage options for non-owner policies are narrower than the options available for owners and primary drivers of owned vehicles. Non-owner auto insurance covers liability for the insured driver but does not include collision or comprehensive coverage. In some cases, non-owner auto insurance may also include medical payments coverage or underinsured/uninsured motorist protection.
In order to obtain non-owner insurance, student drivers and others in need of this coverage must speak directly with an insurance agent. You can call our office during regular business hours to set an appointment or get details. Please keep in mind that in order to obtain a valid non-owner policy, you must be able to obtain a valid driver’s license or learner’s permit within 30 days of purchase.
At Hawks Insurance, we care about driving safety. Let us help you or your student driver begin with success. Call today for details.
